On Sunday, October 5, 2008, the Pro-Life Mass was held in Indianapolis at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. Many people attended and almost all of the seats were filled. Archbishop Beuchlien gave a wonderful homily on the divine sanctity of life and the sacredness of a human life no matter what shape, size or age. Dozens of different banners from various parishes and organizations from all around the archdiocese were carried down the aisle at the beginning of Mass. Our John Paul II banner was carried by two of our seniors, Amy Seger and Richard Carr. Another senior, Bernadette Dela Cruz, read the first reading for the Mass. It was a beautiful celebration.
At the end of the Mass, Miss Cecelia Lundstrom, Director Emeritus of John Paul II Catholic High School, received the 2008 Archbishop O'Meara Pro-Life Award from Archbishop Buechlein for her outstanding hard work in keeping the unborn safe while in the mother’s womb. Miss Lundstrom is the founder and director of Terre Haute’s Birthright, a place for women in crisis pregnancies to go for help with their pregnancies and help with mothering once the child is born. Birthright is located on South 9th Street. Miss Lundstrom has also been a teacher at John Paul II Catholic High School since the school’s beginning. She teaches Religion, the Sacraments and Mass, and Grammar and Composition. Miss Lundstrom is an absolute perfect example of a defender of the life of the unborn and she is a terrific asset to our school—a perfect role model and an excellent person from whom to learn effective ways to defend life.
